Sentence Case

Typographically, the essential difference between the majuscules and minuscules isn't that the majuscules are big and minuscules small, but that the majuscules generally have an equivalent height. the peak of the minuscules varies, as a number of them have parts higher or less than the typical , i.e. ascenders and descenders. In Times New Roman, as an example , b, d, f, h, k, l, t are the letters with ascenders, and g, j, p, q, y are those with descenders. Further to the present , with old-style numerals still employed by some traditional or classical fonts—although most do have a group of other Lining Figures— 6 and eight structure the ascender set, and 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 the descended set.

Letter case is usually prescribed by the grammar of a language or by the conventions of a specific discipline. In orthography, the uppercase is primarily reserved for special purposes, like the primary letter of a sentence or of a correct noun, which makes the lowercase the more common variant in text. In mathematics, case may indicate the connection between objects with uppercase letters often representing "superior" objects (e.g. X might be a group containing the generic member x). Engineering design drawings are typically labelled entirely in upper-case letters, which are easier to differentiate than lowercase, especially when space restrictions require that the lettering be small.
